ANU tops ARC grant success rates

Professor Margaret Harding

ANU has been awarded close to $37 million to fund 104 projects spanning a variety of disciplines in this year’s Australian Research Council (ARC) Major Grants round.

It’s great to see ANU win two more grants and almost $3 million more in Commonwealth Government funding compared with last year.

Importantly, our success rate for Discovery Grants leads the nation (30.08 per cent) on par with the University of Western Australia (30.22 per cent) compared with a sector average of 21.3 per cent. ANU researchers received 71 out of 732 grants worth more than $24 million.

It’s particularly pleasing to see that two out of the 10 Discovery Indigenous Grants, worth $850,000, have gone to ANU researchers.

Also, 24 out of 200 Discovery Early Career Awards have been given to ANU staff, at a value of $8.59 million. Again this is an excellent success rate – 23.5 per cent – compared with a sector average of 15.6 per cent. This result reflects our ability to attract and retain early career researchers of the highest calibre.

ANU researchers have also secured seven out of a total of 72 Linkage Grants, worth $3.3 million.

These are fantastic results for ANU and a cause for celebration for all. On behalf of the ANU community, I congratulate all the recipients.

The results are a clear indication of the talent and consistent effort put in by all academic and professional staff.
